WB549 is the very first British Chipmunk with an interesting history displayed for the first time at Farnborough in 1949 by test pilot Pat Fillingham one of De Havilland’s test Pilots. Following trials WB549 was posted to the Empire Test Pilots School at Farnborough and today she has the approval to display the ETPS standard (crests approved).Subsequently the aircraft was bought by Hawker Siddeley’s MD and civilianised in 1973. Now owned by a former RAF and BOAC Pilot – turned city – merchant banker WB 549 has had the benefit of a investment, making this first of type aircraft one of the best and lowest timed examples in the world.
