De Havilland DH-82 Tiger Moth

Spirit in the Sky are pleased to offer for sale this superb newly restored Tiger Moth. Ex T6457 South African Air Force. This aircraft has been subject to a complete ground up restoration by an approved maintenance organisation. A comprehensive run down of that restoration is detailed below: WINGS – All wings rebuilt using DH82 rib jigs, Spar jigs and other associated jigs. The wood used was hand selected from West Wilde Hardwood Inc in Vancouver Canada. All wood used is of Canadian Sitka Spruce and aircraft grade birch ply. West Systems epoxy 105 resin and 206 hardener was used throughout. Wing spars are of laminate design. The wings were assembled with new leading and trailing edges, fabricated ribs, aileron control boxes together with drag struts and bracing wires. Other wooden parts fabricated as follows: – Vertical Stab complete with new tail post, leading edge and ribs. – Horizontal Stab complete with new spar, leading edge and ribs. – Rudder complete with new spar, edges and ribs. – Elevator complete with new spar and ribs. – Both ailerons complete with new spar and ribs. – Aileron control boxes fabricated to latest design (MOD134) – Control stick / rudder bar control box – Rear Turtle Deck complete with bulk heads – Both cockpit covers – Instrument panels – Floorboards – Set of stringers FUSELAGE – – Right and left, front and rear side frames bead blaste, crack detection carried out by dye penetrant, primed and re-assembled. – Tail unit stripped, cleaned, painted and re-assembled – Fuselage assembled, including turtle decks, cockpit covers, control box, floorboards and other associated parts – Fuselage, wings and control surfaces prepared for covering using the Polyfiber system with medium fabric. – All wood surfaces sealed with Polyfiber EV-400 Epoxy spar varnish. On completion of covering and painting the aircraft was re-assembled as follows: 1. Undercarriage – all landing gear units re-installed 2. Engine mountings re-installed after bead blasting, crack detection and painting 3. All control systems re-installed: rudder bars, pedals, control sticks, engine controls, trim controls etc. New lateral tie rods installed as per CT29. 4. New windscreens and frames fitted. 5. Upper wing cabane struts installed. 6. Lower and upper wings installed with new set of stainless steel flying wires and inter-plane struts. 7. All new control cables installed. 8. Overhauled engine and controls fitted/connected. 9. All control surfaces refitted. 10. New seatbelts installed. The total airframe time has been established at 1519.20 hrs Engine has 867 hrs total time and 4 hrs SMOH. All work was completed IAW De HAvilland DH82 Engineering Drawings, the DH82 Maintenance and Repair Manual, 3rd Edition and the DH82 Schedule of Spare Parts.
